Drums and Containers That Should Not Be Moved - Lab Packs

29 CFR 1910.120(j)(5)(vi) states that "drums and containers containing packaged laboratory wastes shall be considered to contain shock-sensitive or explosive materials until they have been characterized." You will learn about this process of characterization in the next section.

Note that due to certain U.S. Department of Transportation regulations, it may not be possible to ship shock-sensitive wastes. Employers and their shippers should refer to 49 CFR 173.21 and 173.50.
