Methods, Procedures, and Equipment Required for Handling Drums - Communication Systems
It is vital that employees communicate throughout the handling of drums or containers with hazardous waste. Communication may occur through portable radios or telephones, or even by hand signals when appropriate. This communication should take place between the employee who is in charge of the area where the handling occurs and the site safety supervisor, the health supervisor, and the command post.
29 CFR 1910.120(j)(5)(iv) notes that "communication equipment or methods that could cause shock sensitive materials to explode shall not be used."
