Required Regulations for Drums and Containers - 40 CFR 265
40 CFR Part 265 details the EPA regulations for types of containers, maintenance of these containers, and the design and upkeep of storage areas.
The standard applies to owners and operators of all hazardous waste facilities. Every facility owner or operator must apply to the EPA for an EPA identification number in accordance with the EPA notification procedures.
One of the most important aspects of this standard is its requirement for a detailed chemical analysis (sample) of all hazardous chemicals on site. Before an owner or operator treats, stores, or disposes of any hazardous wastes (or non-hazardous wastes if applicable under §265.113(d)), they must obtain a detailed chemical and physical analysis of a representative sample of the wastes.
Part 268 of this standard also contains information regarding hazardous chemicals and analysis.
