Part 171 of 49 CFR (titled "General Information, Regulations, and Definitions") details DOT requirements for the shipping and transport of hazardous materials. It has three subparts:
- Subpart A (titled "Applicability, General Requirements, and North American Shipments")
- Subpart B (titled "Incident Reporting, Notification, BOE Approvals and Authorization")
- Subpart C (titled "Authorization and Requirements for the Use of International Transport Standards and Regulations")
When applicable, employers should consult this standard for information regarding DOT requirements for shipments of drums and containers holding hazardous chemicals.
