49 CFR 178 (titled "Specifications for Packagings") details DOT requirements for packaging hazardous materials. It provides the following information, broken into the following subparts:
- Specifications for inside containers and linings (Subpart B)
- Specifications for cylinders (Subpart C)
- Specifications for portable tanks (Subpart H)
- Specifications for containers for motor vehicle transportation (Subpart J)
- Specifications for packagings for Class 7 (radioactive) materials (Subpart K)
- Non-bulk performance-oriented packaging standards (Subpart L)
- Testing of non-bulk packagings and packages (Subpart M)
- International Building Code (IBC) performance-oriented standards (Subpart N)
- Testing of IBCs (Subpart O)
- Large packagings standards (Subpart P)
- Testing of large packagings (Subpart Q)
- Flexible bulk container standards (Subpart R)
- Testing of flexible bulk containers (Subpart S)
Note that Subparts A, D, E, F, G, and I are reserved.
