Decontamination Equipment - Decontamination PPE
OSHA provides a list of the following pieces of equipment needed for personnel and PPE.
- Drop cloths of plastic or other suitable materials (to place contaminated equipment and outer protective clothing)
- Collection containers like drums or lined trash cans (for storing disposable clothing, contaminated personal protective clothing, equipment
- Lined box with absorbents (for wiping or rinsing off contaminants)
- Large galvanized tubs, stock tanks, or children's wading pools (for holding wash and rinse solutions)
- Wash and rinse solutions (for washing off, rinsing, and reducing the hazards associated with the contaminants)
- Long-handled, soft-bristled brushes (for washing and rinsing off contaminants)
- Paper or cloth towels (for drying protective clothing and equipment)
- Lockers and cabinets (for storing decontaminated clothing and equipment)
- Metal or plastic cans or drums (for holding contaminated wash and rinse solutions)
- Plastic sheeting, sealed pads with drains, or other ways of containing and collecting contaminated wash and rinse solutions spilled during decontamination
- Shower facilities (for full body wash or, at a minimum, personal wash sinks) linked with appropriate drainage systems
- Soap or wash solution, washcloths, and towels (for staff)
- Lockers or closets (for storage of clean clothing and other items)
