Decontamination Equipment - Heavy Equipment & Vehicle Decontamination
Vehicles and other heavy equipment pose their own challenges when it comes to decontamination. Follow these guidelines from OSHA when decontaminating such large items:
- Consider storage tanks with appropriate treatment systems (in order to temporarily store contaminated wash and rinse solutions).
- Use drains or pumps to collect contaminated wash and rinse solutions.
- Select long-handled brushes for general exterior cleaning and rods or other equipment for washing under vehicles and equipment.
- Use pressurized sprayers for washing and rinsing (especially hard-to-reach areas).
- Use curtains, enclosures, spray booths, or the like to contain splashes from pressurized sprays.
- Use containers to hold contaminants and contaminated soil that comes from tires and the undersides of vehicles and equipment.
