Decontamination Methods - Removal

One of the methods of decontamination is the removal of contaminants. This can include the following methods or procedures:

  • Water rinse (using either pressurized water or gravity flow)
  • Chemical leaching and extraction
  • Evaporation
  • Vaporization
  • Pressurized air jets
  • Scrubbing or scraping (typically with brushes, scrapers, or sponges and water-compatible solvent cleaning solutions)
  • Steam jets

Removal also consists of the removal of contaminated surfaces. This includes the disposal of all "deeply permeated materials," such as clothing, floors mats, seats, protective coverings, and protective coatings.
