Decontamination Procedures - Decontamination Facility Design

Before decontamination begins, it is important to have a Decontamination Facility Design that will allow for the safest decontamination of all known and suspected hazardous chemicals and wastes. It will utilize the Contamination Reduction Zone (CRZ), Exclusion Zone (the contaminated area), and the Support Zone (the clean area). You will remember these designations from Unit 4 ("Characterizing Sites").

Later in this unit, you will look at different layouts based on the level of personal protective equipment (PPE) used in site decontamination. For now, note that Decontamination Facility Design is an important part of the planning process for decontamination procedures.
