OSHA and NCRP Regulation
OSHA uses the guidelines presented by the organizations in the previous slide to create its Radiation Standard (title 29 of the Code of Federal Regulations, Section 1910.1096). For this reason, you can also consider OSHA to be a federal regulating agency for radiation risks in the workplace.
Another regulating agency is the National Council on Radiation Protection and Measurements (NCRP). The NCRP is a nonprofit organization that addresses the scientific and technical aspects of radiation protection in the United States. Although the NCRP is not a federal agency, its recommendations form part of the basis for federal, state, and local regulations dealing with radiation hazards. The NCRP draws its members from public and private universities, national and private laboratories, medical centers, other scientific industries, and the government.
