Radiation

Radiation is energy that comes from a variety of natural and human-made sources. It travels from its source in the form of energy waves or energized particles.

You also probably know that radiation can be harmful to people and the environment. It is therefore vital that companies know how to readily recognize, evaluate, and control occupational health hazards associated with ionizing radiation. 29 CFR 1910.1096 (titled "Ionizing Radiation" or "OSHA's Ionizing Radiation Standard for General Industry") covers the requirements for worksites with radiation.

There are two kinds of radiation: ionizing radiation and non-ionizing radiation. In this unit, we will focus on ionizing radiation. We will first learn about ionizing radiation in detail. We will then learn of the considerable health risks it poses to affected workers when the radiation is not properly controlled.
