Burn Properties

The severity of burns caused by an arc flash depends on the temperatures reached and how they contact the skin. The following conditions determine the extent of burn damage resulting from an arc flash:

• The type of clothing worn
• The amount of skin exposed to the extreme temperatures
• The amount of power available at the arc
• The duration of exposure to the arc
• The distance of the worker from the arc
