Emergency Response Training

All persons working with electrical components must complete training based on the risks their work poses to them. The training must be in a classroom setting, on-the-job, or a combination of both. The 2021 NFPA 70E notes that classroom training can include "interactive electronic or interactive web-based training components."

First Aid and Resuscitation

Persons deemed responsible for responding to medical emergencies must be trained in basic first aid and emergency procedures.

Training in cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) is also a requirement. If your employer's emergency response plan includes the use of an automated external defibrillator (AED), you must receive training for its use.

Training must occur at a frequency that satisfies the requirements of the certifying body, such as the American Heart Association, which requires retraining every two years in order to maintain certification.

Contact Release

Any employee exposed to shock hazards must be trained in the safest methods of release of victims from an energized electrical conductor or circuit parts.

Employers are required to verify and document your training completion.

Refresher training must occur annually.
