Flash Injuries
The level of light emitted by an arc flash is dangerous to the human body. Light is measured in units known as lux-a typical overcast day is about 1,000 lux. Direct sunlight is upward of 100,000 lux. The light intensity of a small arc flash event can be 2,000,000 lux, which is twenty times brighter than direct sunlight. The following injuries may result from the light emitted:
- Blindness
- Skin damage
- Additional injuries due to disorientation
