Cameras
Most vehicles and some types of construction equipment can accommodate a back-up camera that provides operators with a view to the rear. Sometimes vehicles and construction equipment come already equipped with cameras, and sometimes cameras are added to equipment later. Camera systems can be purchased as after-market equipment for vehicles. Viewing screens may be dash-mounted but must not block the driver's view out of the windshield. Harsh environments, such as mines, may require more rugged cameras. Determining where to mount a camera for maximum effectiveness may be difficult, especially on large vehicles. A large piece of construction equipment may require two or three cameras to monitor blind spots in the following areas:
- Front of the vehicle
- Rear of the vehicle
- Side of the vehicle
