Daily Meetings
Employers should conduct daily pre-work safety meetings to discuss items such as the following:
- The work to be performed
- Safety hazards
- Safe work procedures
- The method of communicating changes in the work plan
Briefings
Before each job, the employer must give the employee in charge all information that relates to conditions on the jobsite. The employee in charge should then conduct a job briefing with the other employees before the job begins. The briefing must cover the following topics:
- Hazards associated with the job
- Work procedures involved
- Special precautions
- Energy-source controls
- PPE requirements
If the work or operations to be performed during the work day or shift are repetitive and similar, at least one job briefing must be conducted before the start of the first job of each day or shift. Additional job briefings must be held if significant changes, which might affect the safety of the employees, occur during the work.
Briefings can take the form of a short discussion if the work involved is routine and if the employees, through training and experience, can reasonably be expected to recognize and avoid hazards of the job.
A more extensive discussion should be conducted under certain circumstances, as follows:
- If the work is complicated or particularly hazardous
- If the employee cannot be expected to recognize and avoid the hazards of the job
