Safety Standards - ANSI
The American National Standards Institute (ANSI) has approved a standard which applies to construction work that may involve risk factors for musculoskeletal disorders. ANSI standard A10.40 is not a regulation, but implementing this standard can help reduce the risk of ergonomic injuries. The standard is available for purchase from the American Society of Safety Engineers.
ANSI has also published several guides that specify the recommended method for the measurement and evaluation of work practices that involve tools that vibrate the hands. These guides can help employers and workers assess health risks associated with vibrating tools.
The guides cover drills, impact wrenches, grinders, chainsaws, brush cutters, and other groups of handheld tools.
