Two-Person Lifting Tips
Sometimes you can lift heavier items by teaming up with a coworker. However, two-person lifting comes with its own set of hazards like miscommunication, tripping, and shifting loads. When you are lifting items with a coworker, follow these safety tips:
- Try to find a coworker who is the same height as you for the lift.
- Designate a "leader" who will be in charge of the move.
- Plan out the move in advance, and clear your path of any obstructions or tripping hazards.
- Keep your backs straight while lifting.
- Lift only in your "power zone", from mid-thigh to mid-chest.
- Keep the load level while moving.
- Keep your backs straight while you lower the load, bending only your knees.
Consider using shoulder dollies to ease the stress on your backs, or work with suppliers who provide smaller, lighter containers for their materials.
