Approval & Examination
Electrical equipment must be free from recognized hazards that are likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees. The employer is responsible for ensuring that all electrical equipment is safe and for the practical safeguarding of employees using or likely to use electrical equipment. To make sure this is the case, equipment must be examined. The safety of equipment should be determined using each of the following considerations:
- Displays a list, label, or certification specifying the purpose for which it will be used
- Has mechanical strength and durability
- Has proper electrical insulation
- Can withstand the heating effects for the conditions in which it will be used
- Protects against arcing effects
- Is classified by type, size, voltage, current capacity, and specific use
Equipment with specific lists, labels, or certifications can only be installed and used according to the lists, labels, and certifications.
