Use of Special Equipment
Unsealed batteries must be located in enclosures with outside vents or in well-ventilated rooms. They must be arranged so that they prevent the escape of fumes, gases, or electrolyte spray into other areas. Racks and trays must be substantial and resistant to electrolytes. Floors must be acid-resistant unless protected from acid accumulation. Battery-charging areas must be designated for that purpose with a charging area protected from damage by trucks. Well-maintained vent caps must be kept in place on batteries while they are charging in order to avoid electrolyte spray.
The workspace should have a facility for neutralizing and flushing spilled electrolyte and to offer fire protection.
