OSHA Inspections

Employees who do not feel that their workplace is free of hazards may file a complaint with OSHA.

  • Workers do not have to know whether a specific OSHA standard has been violated in order to file a complaint.
  • The complaint should be filed as soon as possible after noticing the hazard or lack of compliance.
  • OSHA citations may only be issued for violations that currently exist or existed in the past six months.
  • Complaints from workers or their representatives are taken seriously by OSHA. OSHA will keep the workers' information confidential.

The are many ways in which a complaint can be filed; online, via fax, via mail, or by telephone.

When filing online, go to the OSHA website and fill out the Online Complaint Form. If you prefer to do so via fax or postal service, download and print the OSHA complaint form or request it from your local office. Then fill it out and return it using your selected method. You may also call in a complaint to your regional office.
