Personal Protective Equipment

When hazards cannot be eliminated and PPE must be used, it is important to select the correct equipment. PPE is worn in order to minimize any exposure to a hazard that might cause a worker to experience an injury or illness. Some examples of PPE are as follows:

• Gloves
• Safety Glasses
• Respirators
• Earplugs
• Hardhats
• Full body suits

It is very important that all necessary PPE fits properly and comfortably. Every worker whose job necessitates the use of PPE must be appropriately trained in its use. This training must cover the following:

• When the use of PPE is necessary
• The kind of PPE necessary for the hazard(s)
• How to put on, adjust, wear, and take off the PPE
• Any limitations of the PPE
• How to properly care for and maintain the PPE
