Personal Protective Equipment

Eye and Face Protection

Safety glasses or goggles should be worn any time work operations present an eye hazard, for example, during welding, cutting, grinding, or nailing (or when working with concrete and/or harmful chemicals, or when exposed to flying particles).

Face shields are intended to protect the face or portions of it from impact hazards such as flying fragments, objects, large chips, and particles. However, a worker should always wear safety glasses under a face shield because the bottom and sides of face shields typically have gaps. Workers should use face shields in combination with safety spectacles or goggles, even in the absence of dust or potential splashes, for additional protection beyond that offered by spectacles or goggles alone.

Head Protection

Wear a hard hat where there is a potential for objects falling from above and bumps to the head from fixed objects. Routinely inspect your hard hat for dents, cracks, or deterioration. Replace it after a heavy blow. Keep it in good condition.
