Cylinders
Cylinders used to fuel hot work equipment have specific usage, labeling, and storage guidelines per OSHA regulations.
Oxygen and fuel gas pressure regulators, including their related gauges, must be kept in proper working order while in use. If a leak should develop at a fuse plug or other safety device during hot work operations, the cylinder must be removed from the work area.
All portable cylinders used for the storage and shipment of compressed gases must be constructed and maintained in accordance the U.S. Department of Transportation's regulations.
Labeling
Compressed gas cylinders must be legibly marked for the purpose of identifying the gas content with either the chemical or the trade name of the gas contained therein. Such markings must be made by means of stenciling, stamping, or labeling, and must not be easily removed. Whenever practical, the marking must be located on the shoulder of the cylinder for easy reference.
Fuel gas and oxygen manifolds must bear the name of the substance they contain in letters at least 1-inch high, which must be painted on the manifold itself or on a sign permanently attached to it.
