Generator Requirements

For generators that are stationary, the foundation must be so arranged that the generator is level and no excessive strain will be placed on the generator or its connections. Generators must be placed where water will not freeze; the use of common salt or other corrosive chemicals for protection against freezing temperatures is not permitted.

Sources of ignition are prohibited in outside generator houses or inside generator rooms.

Water must not be supplied through a continuous connection to the generator except when the generator is provided with an adequate open overflow or automatic water shutoff that is capable of preventing an overfilling of the generator. Where a noncontinuous connection is used, the supply line must terminate at a point not less than 2 inches above the regularly provided opening for filling so that the water can be observed as it enters the generator. Each generator must be provided with a vent pipe as well.

Acetylene Generators

Generators must be of approved construction and must be plainly marked with the maximum rate of acetylene in cubic feet per hour for which they are designed; the weight and size of carbide necessary for a single charge; the manufacturer's name and address; and the name or number of the type of generator. All acetylene generators must be grounded.
