Discontinuing Site Monitoring

What happens if the results from the initial assessments come back, and workers are within the legal limit? With this good news comes even more good news: If the initial assessment shows that no employee is exposed above the AL, employers may stop monitoring.

From this point, employers do not need to conduct more exposure testing unless there is a change in work processes or controls that the employer thinks could result in additional lead exposure for employees. If the employer thinks these changes could result in lead exposure at or above the AL, (or above the PEL) then the employer should begin initial monitoring.

Please note that the employer must keep a written record of the results that state lead levels are within the legal limit. This must include the date, location of the assessment within the work site, and the name and Social Security number of each employee who was monitored.
