Employee Information Training Program
Employers must create an information and training program to ensure that employees are aware of workplace lead exposure. This program is for any employee subjected to exposure to lead or lead compounds at or above the action level on any day. It is also for employees who could experience skin or eye irritation as a result of lead compounds.
Training must occur prior to employees beginning work. It must then be annual. All materials relating to the training program (and a copy of the standard and appendices) must be available to all affected employees.
Training must include the following:
- Information about adverse health effects associated with excessive lead exposure
- OSHA's Lead Standard (content and appendices)
- How certain operations could lead to lead exposure above the AL
- Engineering and work practice controls associated with employee tasks
- The contents of any current lead-related compliance plan
- Proper respirator selection, purpose, fit, use, and limitations
The training program must also include information regarding the medical surveillance program, which you learned about in the last section.
