End-of-Day Procedures
In this section, you learned that it is vital for employees to properly wash up in order to eliminate lead from the skin and clothes. A part of this includes initiating end-of-day procedures. Many of these procedures seem repetitive when considering information from the previous slides, but establishing these procedures is yet another prudent step in ensuring the safety of workers and their families.
When workers are exposed to lead above the permissible exposure limit, employers must ensure that employees follow these procedures at the end of their workday:
- Place contaminated clothes, including work shoes and personal protective equipment to be cleaned, laundered, or disposed of, in a properly labeled closed container. (You will learn more about this in a coming slide, "Handling Contaminated Protective Clothing."
- If shower facilities are available, employees must take a shower and wash their hair.
- Where showers are not provided, employees must wash their hands and face at the end of the work day.
- Change into street clothes in clean change areas.
