Lead Exposure Risk
Who is at risk for lead exposure, and how do we determine if these suspected at-risk individuals are indeed being exposed to lead at dangerous levels? In this section, you will learn more about which workers are specifically prone to lead exposure in the construction industry. You will then learn about the testing and procedures related to determining who is exposed to lead.
Remember that the standard for lead in construction is all-encompassing. It applies to all construction work where an employee may be exposed to lead (not just the workers mentioned in this section). Also remember that the standard establishes maximum limits of worker exposure to lead, including a permissible exposure limit (PEL) and action level (AL). The PEL and AL are the levels from which we determine whether or not a worker is at risk, and these measurements help us determine which actions to take in regard to lead exposure.
