Medical Removal
Employers must prepare for the possibility that the results of a medical examination will show that the employee must be removed from work duties due to overexposure.
There are many situations in which employers must remove employees from work based on medical testing results. They are as follows:
- Each time periodic and follow-up (within two weeks of the periodic test) blood sampling tests show the employee's blood lead level is at or above 50 µg/dL (for employees whose levels were above the approved AL).
- Each time a final medical determination states the employee needs reduced lead exposure for medical reasons (for employees whose levels were above the approved AL).
- Any employee whose physician is implementing the employer's medical program and who makes a final written opinion recommending the employee's removal (regardless of the AL).
