Special Considerations - Conditions
There are a few conditions that can make a permit space effectively a non-permit required space. While a permit is still technically required, many of the permit space requirements for entry can be set aside, as follows:
- All physical hazards in the space are either removed or isolated, so that the only remaining hazards are atmospheric in nature.
- All atmospheric hazards can be eliminated by continuous forced ventilation alone.
- The employer must develop monitoring and inspection data to prove that all hazards are eliminated.
- If the space needs to be entered to eliminate hazards, it must be done according to the rules for entering as an entrant.
- The entrant and attendant must be allowed to witness the testing and monitoring of the space and view the data.
If all of the foregoing conditions are met, the usual regulations (which we will get to later in the course) are set aside, and instead replaced by more simplified rules, which we will discuss next.
