Erection Bridging - Long Spans
When the span of a steel joist is between 100 feet and 144 feet, all rows of bridging must be bolted diagonal bridging. Hoisting cables may not be removed until all the bridging is installed and anchored. No more than two employees are allowed on the joist until all other bridging is installed and anchored.
All joists less than 144 feet in length that are bottom chord bearing joists must have a row of bolted diagonal bridging near the supports. This bridging must be installed and anchored before the hoisting cable can be released.
For joists that span more than 144 feet, the joist must be installed with the same specifications as solid web structural elements.
