Site-Specific Erection Plan
Sometimes, site conditions require alternative means of protection or modes of production. If deviations from or modifications to certain safety standards are necessary, the employer must develop a site-specific erection safety plan. This plan must be written by a qualified person and be available at the work site. The plan must include the following:
- The sequence of erection activity, including material deliveries, staging, and storage
- Coordination with other trades and construction activities
- A description of the selection and placement procedures for cranes and derricks, including:
- Site preparation
- The path for overhead loads (to avoid having anyone working underneath)
- Critical lifts, including rigging supplies and equipment
- A description of the steel erection procedures and related information, including:
- Stability considerations requiring temporary bracing and guying
- Erection bridging terminus points
- Notification of anchor rod modifications
- Columns, beams, connections, decking, joists and purlins
- Any ornamental or miscellaneous iron
Site-specific erection plans must also include the following details:
- A description of the fall protection plan (which will be discussed in detail in a later section)
- A description of the falling object protection plan (which will be discussed in a later section)
- A description of special procedures required for hazardous non-routine tasks, such as confined space entry or the use of toxic or flammable materials
- A certification for each employee who has been trained for steel erection operations
- A list of all qualified persons (that is, those with extensive training, knowledge, and experience of the materials and procedures at hand, demonstrated through a degree, certificate, or other means)
- A list of all competent persons (that is, those who are capable of recognizing hazards and have authorization to take action to eliminate those hazards)
- A description of rescue or emergency procedures
- The location of the job site and identification of the project
- The signature of the qualified person responsible for the plan's preparation or modification, and the date the site-specific erection plan was signed
