Walking & Working Surfaces
Some activities require workers to walk across beams and joists. To avoid falls, the beams should remain free of tripping hazards. Shear connectors, reinforcing bars, deformed anchors, and threaded studs must not protrude vertically from beams and joists until after the metal decking or other walking surface has been installed.
If shear connectors are used during the construction of composite floors, roofs, and bridge decks, they must not be laid out and installed until after the metal decking is fully installed. Once the decking has been installed, it can be used as the working platform for these connections. Shear connections cannot be installed from a CDZ.
