Using Handheld Masonry Saws
Handheld masonry saws are frequently used without dust controls to cut masonry materials, such as brick, concrete slabs, blocks, and pavers, which typically contain crystalline silica. Cutting those masonry materials without proper dust controls can surround the worker in a cloud of fine silica dust.
Two types of engineering controls are readily available to reduce dust exposures from cutting with a hand-held saw:
- Water
- Local exhaust ventilation
