Arrow Displays
Arrow displays use a lighted panel to provide information about roadway conditions. The MUTCD specifies four types of arrow displays, as follows:
- Type A-Suitable for use on low-speed urban streets.
- Type B-Suitable for use on roadways with mid-zone speeds, or for maintenance or mobile operations on high-speed roadways.
- Type C-Suitable for use on high-speed, high-volume roadways.
- Type D-Intended for use on vehicles authorized by a state or local agency only.
When placing an arrow display, it must be at least seven feet high measuring from the bottom of the board to the roadway beneath it. If the board is not on the roadway, use the elevation of the near-edge of the roadway for this measurement.
A PCMS device may be used to simulate an arrow display.
