Pavement Markings
The markings on the pavement of a road provide drivers with important information. During roadway construction, these markings are very important for defining a clear path of travel through the TTC zone.
All existing, permanent pavement markings must be maintained during any long-term, stationary roadway construction project. If the permanent markings are not applicable in the TTC zone, they must be removed as soon as possible, and care must be taken during the removal not to scar the pavement. Painting over markings or spraying them with asphalt are not acceptable methods of removal.
When permanent markings must be removed and replaced with temporary road markings, this work should done at a time and in a way that avoids disruption to traffic passing through the TTC area. Any new or temporary markings must be in place before a detour or newly paved area is opened to road users.
When it is not possible to mark the pavement to indicate a new path of travel, channelizing devices, warning signs, and other methods should be used.
All pavement markings and other devices used to indicate road user paths should be reviewed during both daylight and nighttime conditions.
