Float (Ship) Scaffolds
A float (ship) scaffold is a suspension scaffold consisting of a braced platform resting on two parallel bearers and hung from overhead supports by ropes of fixed length.
Float scaffolds must adhere to the following criteria:
- The platform must be supported by a minimum of two bearers, each of which must project a minimum of 6 inches beyond the platform on both sides. Each bearer must be securely fastened to the platform.
- Rope connections must be such that the platform cannot shift or slip.
- When only two ropes are used with each float, they must adhere to the following criteria:
- They must be arranged so as to provide four ends which are securely fastened to overhead supports.
- Each supporting rope must be hitched around one end of the bearer and pass under the platform to the other end of the bearer where it is hitched again, leaving sufficient rope at each end for the supporting ties.
