Multi-Point Adjustable Suspension Scaffolds

A multi-point adjustable suspension scaffold - including a stonesetters' and a masons' multi-point adjustable suspension scaffold - is a suspension scaffold consisting of a platform(s) which is suspended by more than two ropes from overhead supports and equipped with means to raise and lower the platform to desired work levels. Such scaffolds include chimney hoists.

Multi-point adjustable suspension scaffolds must adhere to the following criteria:

  • When two or more scaffolds are used, they must not be bridged one to another unless they are designed to be bridged, the bridge connections are articulated, and the hoists are properly sized.
  • If bridges are not used, passage may be made from one platform to another only when the platforms are at the same height and are abutting.
  • Scaffolds must be suspended from metal outriggers, brackets, wire rope slings, hooks, or means that meet equivalent criteria for strength and durability.
