PFAS - Inspection & Use

Personal fall arrest systems must be inspected prior to each use for wear, damage, and other deterioration. Defective components must be removed from service. In additional, the following criteria apply to all PFAS:

• When subjected to impact loading (in other words, a fall), all PFAS must be immediately removed from service and must not be used again until a competent person inspects and determines them to be undamaged and suitable for reuse.
• Body belts, harnesses, and components must not be used to hoist materials.
• The employer must provide for prompt rescue of employees in the event of a fall or must assure that employees are able to rescue themselves.
