Safety Training for Workers
Every employer is responsible for instructing each employee to recognize and avoid unsafe work site conditions. Furthermore, employers must teach employees about the safety regulations applicable to their work environment, the tools and machines they use, the hazards they encounter, and the personal protective measures that must be taken. Additionally, the employer must provide scaffold-specific training.
The employer must have each employee who performs work while on a scaffold trained by a person qualified in the subject matter to recognize the hazards associated with the type of scaffold being used and to understand the procedures to control or minimize those hazards. The training must include the following areas, as applicable:
- The nature of any electrical hazards, fall hazards, and falling object hazards in the work area
- The correct procedures for dealing with electrical hazards
- The correct procedures for erecting, maintaining, and disassembling fall protection systems and falling object protection systems
- The proper use of the scaffold and the proper handling of materials on the scaffold
- The maximum intended load and the load-carrying capacities of the scaffolds used
- Any other pertinent requirements to the work site and its characteristics, including the use of personal fall arrest systems
