Scaffold Use

The following general criteria apply to all scaffold use:

Loads: Scaffolds and scaffold components must not be loaded in excess of their maximum intended loads or rated capacities, whichever is less.

Damage: If any part of a scaffold is damaged or weakened so its strength is less than the criteria defined in the previous slide, the scaffold must be immediately repaired or replaced, braced to meet those provisions, or removed from service until repaired.

Inspection: A competent person must inspect scaffolds and scaffold components for visible defects before each work shift and after any occurrence that could affect a scaffold's structural integrity.

Movement: Scaffolds must not be moved horizontally while employees are on them, unless a registered engineer has specifically designed for such movement.
