OSHA Regulations
The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) is an agency of the U.S. Department of Labor. Under the Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) Act of 1970, OSHA is charged with the enforcement of safety and health conditions of workers through the use of regulations and by providing for research, information, education, and training. OSHA regulations are published in Title 29 of the Code of Federal Regulations Part 1926 for Construction.
Part 1926 applies to the following types of construction workers:
- All contractors who enter into contracts for construction, alteration, or repair
- All subcontractors who agree to perform any part of the labor or material requirements of a contract
- All suppliers who furnish any supplies or materials for work performed on or near a construction site, or if the supplier fabricates the goods or materials specifically for the construction project
The following OSHA regulations are applicable to construction walking-working surfaces:
- 1926 Subpart C - General Safety and Health Provisions
- 1926 Subpart L - Scaffolds
- 1926 Subpart M - Fall Protection
- 1926 Subpart X - Stairways and Ladders
