Selection of Protective Systems

Selection of Protective Systems is from Appendix F to Subpart P of 29 CFR §1926. It provides decision trees that assist in choosing the appropriate excavation/trenching protective system for excavations 20 feet or less in depth.

A registered professional engineer must design protective systems for use in excavations that are more than 20 feet in depth in accordance with "Design of sloping and benching systems" and "Design of support systems, shield systems, and other protective systems," presented in this course.
