Training - Bloodborne Pathogen Standard
The requirements of 29 CFR 1910.1030 state that all employees with occupational exposure to blood and OPIM must receive initial and annual training on the hazards of occupational exposure and protective measures to be taken to minimize the risk of occupational exposure.
Training can be performance-oriented, and a training program can be tailored to the employee's background and experience. However, at minimum, a training program must address specific standards, such as an explanation of the use and limitations of methods that will prevent or reduce exposure, including the following:
- Appropriate engineering controls
- Work practices
- Personal protective equipment (PPE)
Industry-specific and site-specific information is necessary.
