Body Art
In the workplace of a body artist, a tattooist or piercer is exposed to bloodborne pathogens through used needles and other sharp instruments (such as razors). To protect the artist from a needlestick injury, certain practices should be followed:
- Minimizing the number of time an artist's hands come in contact with a sharp
- Throwing all disposable piercing needles, tattoo needles, and razors into a sharps disposal container
- Having a readily available, easy-to-reach, well-marked sharps disposal container
- Replacing sharps containers when they reach two-thirds capacity
