Employer Rights & Responsibilities

Responsibility for employee safety belongs to the employer. Employers are responsible for providing, replacing, and repairing PPE, as well as training employees in the proper use of controls. The training needs to be specific for the work environment and the specific hazards in the workplace.

Some of the ways an employer meets this requirement are as follows:

• Meeting training requirements
• Developing an onsite consultation program
• Properly communicating hazards and labeling
• Developing and implementing an exposure control plan
• Keeping necessary records (sharps injury log, medical records)
