Needlestick Safety and Prevention Act

In November of 2000, President Clinton signed the Needlestick Safety and Prevention Act, which would amend the Bloodborne Pathogens Standard. This new act changed the focus of legislation to move from behavior to safety devices. These engineering controls will be discussed later in this course. This Act, along with the Medicare Modernization Act, also expanded the coverage of the newly amended Bloodborne Pathogens Standard from solely the private sector to both the public and private sector. This Act allowed employees to have better access to training, records, and emerging technology.
