Removal of PPE
The World Health Organization has a suggested order in which to remove PPE when working with bloodborne pathogens:
- Remove your apron, and dispose of it properly:
- If it is disposable, place it in the proper receptacle.
- If it is reusable, place it in a container with disinfectant.
- Remove your overshoes while you are still wearing gloves.
- Remove your gown and gloves by rolling them from the inside out, so as never to touch the exposed part of the PPE to your skin or clothing, and then dispose of them properly.
- Wash your hands.
- Remove your headcover starting from behind the head.
- Remove your face protection, face shield, or goggles; then remove your mask.
- Wash your hands again.
