Additional Regulations for Tower Cranes & Derricks
Due to the dangers related to their shapes, tower cranes and derricks require additional regulations. Employers and operators should note the following:
- Substitute the words "erecting, climbing, and dismantling" for "assembly/disassembly" in the following regulations, and follow the requirements laid out in them: §1926.1403, §1926.1404, §1926.1405, and §1926.1406.
- In addition to the regulations already stated in this course, the A/D director must ensure that the equipment meet further regulations, such as the foundations and structural supports, the loss of backward stability, and wind speed. See §1926.1435(b)(4) for these requirements.
